MAPT Overview Flowchart
The Medicaid Asset Protection Trust (MAPT) overview flowchart is helpful to determine how the MAPT works at its core. While there are many provisions and options available in the MAPT that are not included in the snapshot, the document gives you a major overview to get you oriented to the MAPT. Once you know the overall flow of how the MAPT works, you can then get into the nitty-gritty of customizing the MAPT for each client.
The MAPT overview flowchart gives you a snapshot view of the document as a whole. This snapshot gives information about the purpose, standard characteristics, and optional provisions of the MAPT. This will give you an idea of what clients will benefit from the use of a MAPT in their case planning, as well as ideas on how to tailor planning to their specific needs. The flowchart also gives important trust administration information, including how Income and Principal are accessed, who is taxed on trust income, and who can make trust changes.
This download provides a flowchart, which describes what happens at a Grantor’s death, depending upon whether it is a joint or individual trust.
